First Year students, along with Transition Year students, stood for a minute’s silence in Desmond College on Friday 9th September, to mark National Famine Commemoration Day.

The TY class, under the direction of their teachers Margaret O’Mahony and Kerrie Collins organized the school event. It was a poignant and moving ceremony, as TY students commemorated the Great Famine in prose, poetry and song.

The Principal, Vourneen Gavin Barry, in calling for a minute’s silence, asked the students to remember not only the victims of the Great Famine of our own country, but also to give thought to those people living with famine today across the world.
