On the 16th of May the U16 1/2 football county final was played in Mick Neville park, Rathkeale.

Desmond College emerged victorious over Askeaton, with a 4-15 to 3-9 win.

Desmond College’s captain, Dylan Moloney got the boys off to a good start with a point within the first 30 seconds which was quickly followed by a goal by Brendan Guiry. This early lead put the Desmond College boys in high spirits, with another point from Dylan Moloney and one from Danny Moriarty before Askeaton got on the score board.

Askeaton struggled to find the back of the net which was hardly surprising with a solid performance from Micheal Murphy in full back. The supply to the forwards was plentyful with Dylan Moloney sweeping up everything in midfield assisted by Danny Moriarty.

The Desmond College boys didn’t lack support and encouragement as they were continuously being cheered on by trainer/manager Mr Padraig Murphy.

Excellent teamwork between David O’Donovan, Brendan Guiry and Danny Moriarty in the 27th minute rewarded Desmond with their third goal of the half. A point from Askeaton in the 29th minute put a score at half time of Desmond College 3-9 to Askeaton 1-6.

The second half kicked off with Dylan Singh getting fouled and the free being slotted between the posts with ease by Dylan Moloney who gave an absolute man of the match performance.

Askeaton piled on the pressure in the second half, displaying dominance in the air and for the breaking ball. Unfortunately for Askeaton, this was short lived when Desmond college responded with points from Dylan Moloney, Danny Moriarty and Bryan Mortell.

It was an exciting game to watch and we would like to say well done to Askeaton and a huge congratulations to Desmond College.

Well done boys – an amazing close to the sporting year in Desmond College.
