A simultaneous chess contest was held today Friday 6th December in Coláiste Chiaráin, Croom.
Four of our students, along with 19 other students from around the county, all played Diana Mirza at the same time. Out of the 23 students only one managed to beat Diana.
Diana is currently the European Champion, Irish Champion and is about to play in the World Championships. The gravity of these achievements by her was not lost on our school’s chess team, so we jumped at the opportunity to take part having been formally invited.
Nathan Dunleavy, Eoghan Mulqueen, Ryan White and Gavin Herlihy bravely represented Desmond College and all played excellent games even though they were beaten by this worthy opponent. This event has kicked off our chess season and we are now entered into a County Championship with upcoming games after Christmas.
Training will continue to take place every Wednesday, during lunch, in room 4 with Mr O’Rahilly.
