Let's Learn about Drugs and Alcohol Together

The “Lets Learn about Drugs and Alcohol Together” Programme
will be delivered in Desmond College, Newcastle West this April.

This is the 2nd year the programme has been delivered in Desmond College. The programme involves two workshops; the first workshop is just for 2nd year parents, while the second workshop is for 2nd year parents and their son/daughter. Attendance at both workshops is important and the programme is only open to your son/daughter by your participation.

WORKSHOP ONE
The parent workshop will look at the following areas:
What is a drug? Why young people use drugs? How to talk to your child about drugs, Importance of Parental influence, Key prevention messages, Information on key substances.

WORKSHOP TWO
parent and pupil workshop involves working together in a shared learning environment.
This workshop builds on workshop one and supports learning from the SPHE class, through active engagement around three key messages about cannabis, solvents and alcohol.

The dates for the workshop at Desmond College are:

Tuesday 21st April 7:00 pm – 8.30 pm Desmond College (parent only)
Tuesday 28th April 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm Desmond College (parent & 2nd year child)

Registration is not essential but will help us to determine numbers interested. You are under no obligation to attend if you text the message is purely to determine a level of interest from parents.

It is important to note that this programme is not a lecture but an interactive workshop. The programme is in its 3rd year and has received huge praise and approval from parents, pupils and teachers who attended.
